Winston-Salem -- Tuesday evening, Officers responded to a 911 call on Friedberg Church Rd in Winston Salem. Telecommunicators said the caller was cursing and then hung up the phone.
On arrival Officers made contact with a man who was later identified as Dwayne Jessup. According to police, Jessup pointed what appeared to be a long barreled weapon at the officers. One of those officers fired shots at Jessup as they retreated to cover.
Additional officers responded to the area as well as members of the Winston Salem Police Departments SWAT Team. After approximately one hour, contact was established with Jessup and he surrendered to police.
Neither Jessup nor the officers involved were injured during this incident.
As is customary in matters such as this, the involved Officers have been placed on Administrative Leave pending the outcome of an an internal investigation.
The involved Officers were identified as Officer Michael Hodges who has been employed by the Winston Salem Police Department for almost 2 years and Officer Dana Rickert who has been employed by the Winston Salem Police Department for about a year.
After his arrest, Dwayne Jessup was booked into the Forsyth County Detention Center.
