Winston-Salem, NC - The new "Power Felt" fabric could have you charging your phone without plugging in.

Wake Forest University physicist and inventor David Carroll invented the felt that uses temperature differences in the fabric to create electricity anywhere.

The "felt" could be put in clothing, chairs, or other fabrics. All you would have to do is touch the fabric with your phone and you could get a charge.

Carroll says it's not meant to charge your device all the way, but it could give you just enough power to make that one last phone call.

Carroll's invention tops the New York Times' list of new inventions to keep an eye on in the next few years.
