High Rock Plane Crash, WBTV
Salisbury, NC -- Rowan County investigators confirmed that two people died in a plane crash on Friday just before 2pm.
Kathleen Berger with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said a Cessna LC-42 single-engine plane crashed into the Yadkin River. Berger said the plane departed the Lexington Airport and they aren't sure how many people total were on board.
A manager at the airport told WBTV a couple was on board the plane. He said The two spent the night in Davidson County after flying in from Michigan on Thursday evening. Officials said the couple was heading to Florida.
The plane was reported down in the lake around 1:45 p.m.
Emergency crews say the single-engine plane crashed in the water near Cow Island.
According to WBTV, emergency dive teams pulled a woman's body from the lake near the wreckage. Around 5:45pm, crews suspended the search for a second victim because of heavy fog on the lake.
Rowan County Emergency Services Director Frank Thomas on said the airplane broke apart when it hit the water.
