Greensboro, NC-- It's only a couple blocks long and it's the most talked about piece of land in Greensboro. Why?
Homeowners near the corner of Friendly Avenue and Hobbs Road are worried that a Trader Joe's will bring bright parking lot lights and the Friendly Center traffic right to their backyards.
We told you a couple of weeks ago there's a Facebook page claiming Trader Joe's is coming to that location. And Sunday a church-full of people voiced concerns about the retail store coming to their neighborhood.
News 2 called Trader Joe's Monday to see whether they're considering the Greensboro location.
Trader Joe's hasn't responded, but here is what we know from the developer: Chris Widmayer says he is in talks with a commercial business for the Friendly Center location and he said he could not tell us the name.
If it's a Trader Joes, here's what you need to know: Trader Joe's is a discount grocer that even sells wine under its own label. It doesn't have memberships or accept coupons.
The main concern for those in the area in question is the potential increase in traffic. Widamyer says at this time, no concrete plans are in place to address that but his team is considering all options.
He also adds that he hasn't even submitted a zoning petition for the business. And if he does, city council will get the final word on whether the project will happen.
Widamyer did not give a timeline of when they would like to move forward with the project... but they will continue to meet with neighbors to talk about their proposed plans.
