Greensboro, NC -- The WFMY News 2 Piedmont Winterfest is back for its second year.

The downtown outdoor ice rink located at Festival Park on Davie Street will open to skaters on November 16.  Tickets will be $8 a person for a 90 minute session and include the skates.

We had an overwhelming positive response from our community last year," said Elijah Lovejoy, president of Renovo Designs LLC and founder of Piedmont Winterfest. "Due to popular demand, the rink will be over 50 percent bigger than last year, making it the largest outdoor downtown ice rink in the state."

Construction on the outdoor ice skating rink will begin on Nov. 7.

On Thanksgiving Day, the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree will make a brief stop in Greensboro on its way to Washington, DC. The tree will be on display at the ice rink from 1-5:30 pm.

The Sierra White Fir stands at 61 feet tall and is 21 feet wide at the base. The tree will be lying flat on a large truck trailer with banners on each side that people can sign throughout the afternoon.

You will be able to view a live camera of the construction as well as the activity on the ice all season long on Digtriad.

The ice rink will be open to the public through January 29.
