Winston-Salem, NC -- Men from Winston-Salem and the surrounding communities put on a pair of high heels and walked a mile together as part of Family Services' "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" event.
The walk aims to raise awareness about rape, sexual assault and gender violence, as well as highlight the role that men play in creating a solution.
"There is a saying: "You can't really understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes." Walk a Mile in Her Shoes asks men to literally walk one mile in women's high-heeled shoes. It's not easy walking in these shoes, but that's the whole point.
This event provides an opportunity to get the community talking about something that's been difficult to discuss: how men and women must work together to end sexual violence," said Al Renna, President and CEO of Family Services, Inc.
