Davidson County, NC -- The Davidson County Health Department is sponsoring a Rabies Clinic on Saturday at Tyro Middle School from 2pm-4pm.

Dr. Greg Hedrick will be administering the vaccines; the cost is $5 per vaccination.

All rabies vaccines administered at the clinic will be one-year vaccines only, unless the owner or responsible party can show a rabies certificate proving the animal is properly vaccinated.

All animals must remain in the vehicle. The owner maintains responsibility for their animal while at the clinic.

Animals should be handled by an adult.

All dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in a carrier.

North Carolina law requires that all dogs, cats, and ferrets over 4 months of age be vaccinated against rabies. They can be vaccinated as young as 3 months of age.

Owners not complying with the law may be fined $100 per day the animal is not vaccinated from the time it is required.

North Carolina law also requires that rabies vaccinations shall be given only by a licensed veterinarian.
