Greensboro, NC -- An associate professor at Guilford College spent the night in jail after he was arrested Thursday.
According to the Guilford County jail roster, Jonathan Hatch, 43, was arrested Thursday afternoon. He is charged with secret peeping and eight counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
Arrest warrants detail Hatch using a camera pen with a USB port to take pictures up a woman's skirt, ultimately burning the images to CDs. The documents also detail hundreds of images and videos of child pornography found on Hatch's computer by investigators.
The warrants claim Hatch confessed to all his charges.
A cached version of Guilford College's website lists Hatch as an Associate Professor of Mathematics. The school has now removed his name from the faculty page. A representative wasn't immediately available for comment.
He is listed as a former employee of Guilford College on the arrest warrants.
Hatch was issued a $25,000 secured bond. He's set to make his first appearance Friday afternoon.
Guilford College issued this statement:
Guilford College recently became aware of an incident, brought forward by a student, involving associate mathematics professor Jonathan Hatch, who was accused of using a pen-like device to record inappropriate and unauthorized images of the student. Mr. Hatch, who has had a successful history with the College, resigned his position on June 3 before the College had completed its investigation.
The College community is saddened by these events and is cooperating fully with the Greensboro Police Department in its investigation. Guilford College does not condone, and will not tolerate, behavior of the type alleged. Students may report incidents of concern at any time to the Public Safety Office or the Office of Campus Life, which also provides counseling services.
