Undated -- This week, WFMY News 2 received more information on the condition called myocarditis that killed 17-year-old Josh Level.

Level was a rising basketball star, being recruited from colleges all over the nation, but he collapsed while playing basketball in February. He later died at the hospital.

Doctors told Josh's father myocarditis is extremely rare. Myocarditis is a virus, like the common cold, and attacks a person's heart causing the heart's lining to thicken; it eventually makes the heart stop.

Thursday, WFMY News 2 received a Facebook message from Joe and Amy Skowronski of New York. They said their 10-year-old son, Luke, died in his sleep from myocarditis.

They said: "We do not suspect that this disease is as rare as it seems, and our hearts and love go out to Josh's family. We've been told that our activism is admirable? Our response 'we are not activists, just parents, trying to save some kids and spare other parents from this.' "

Friday night we talked to them via Skype. They believe there are plenty of people who die from myocarditis and no one knows. "You can't stop something from happening that you don't know exists. So that's our goal right now is to get it out there."

They're trying to lobby Congress for more research and awareness. They have a website and facebook page in Luke's memory.
