GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Cone Health will open its new Center for Children Monday, in part to help accommodate the more than 40,000 uninsured or under-insured child and adolescent patients affected by last month's physician layoffs at Guilford Child Health (Triad Adult and Pediatric Medicine).

The Cone Health Center for Children is located at 301 E Wendover Avenue in suite 400. It will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Initially, six primary pediatricians will staff the facility. Though the center will accept walk-ins, interested patients are encouraged to call 336-832-3150 to make an appointment.

Cone Health said it was able to use an existing facility to open the Center for Children within two weeks--less than three and a half weeks since Guilford Child Health announced the layoffs.

Dr. Martha Perry, lead physician, said the new children's health center seeks to accommodate both sick and healthy children. Dr. Shruti Simha, a pediatrician, said specifically, the center will offer services to accommodate children who are chronically ill, developmentally delayed in learning or are affected by mental health issues.

Simta emphasized the new center for children will serve a dual purpose--to help not only child and adolescent patients but also physician residents, who will use be able to use state-of-the-art equipment and research to aid in providing care for patients.
