Greensboro, N.C. -- Students in Guilford County reached their Roadmap 2 Reading goal and traveled 3181 miles by reading 20 minutes a day.  But students and teachers at Bessemer Elementary aren't stopping there.

They're holding a 'Reading Extravaganza' for their students and parents on Thursday, January 30, 2014.

Bessemer Elementary Principal Ronald Dixon and two of his school's outstanding readers joined WFMY News 2's Tracey McCain on the Good Morning Show to talk about the reading event.

"This program will emphasize the importance of students reading at home," explained Dixon.  "Parents will learn different reading strategies and resources available to promote Lifelong reading."

Fifth grade students Ana and Hudane talked about why its so important to read.  "You have to read to succeed," said Ana.
