BURLINGTON, N.C. -- A fog advisory is in effect for the southern and eastern parts of the Triad until 10 a.m. Wednesday. Patches of fog are popping up in other areas, as well, which pose danger to drivers on their morning commutes.

The National Weather Service said visibility has been reduced to less than a few hundred feet in some areas.  Alamance and Randolph Counties are experiencing the heaviest fog. Heavy fog has cast a hazy blanket over I-40 and I-840 from Greensboro to Burlington.

In foggy conditions, drivers should leave early for their destinations, use low beams and drive slowly. They also can crack their windows, so as to hear cars or other vehicles they might not be able to see clearly. Drivers whose cars break down should turn off their cars, remove their feet from the breaks and safely move away from the car, because drivers tend to follow tail lights in fog.
