GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The goal is to feed 100 plus families in need this Thanksgiving.
Local non-profits, the I Am A Queen Foundation and AskTani.com have partnered with other community groups to fill big boxes with frozen turkeys and non-perishable foods to be given away on Saturday, November 23, 2013.
The giveaway will take place from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Windsor Recreation Center located at 1601 East Lee Street in Greensboro.
According to the Food Research and Action Center's 2012 Food Hardship Report, the Greensboro/High Point metropolitan area ranks second in the nation when it comes to adults facing food hardships and not having enough to eat. "Sadly, this is major reality to a lot of people in the Triad and they need the help of the community," said Tanisha Layne with AskTani.com.
"We advise that families arrive early and only one representative will be allowed to receive a box of food. This event is open to the community and we will accept donations the day of the event," explained Shaunielle Foster with the I Am A Queen Foundation.
