Piedmont Triad, NC -- Want to get rid of a deer problem or want some bucks in your yard?
Two completely different wants but Chris Olsen shows us easy ways to deal with both!
You know, I know a lot of you probably think I am a City Boy but I got some country
roots in me. I am outside today on feeding my deer.
Now, your neighbors may hate you for this because a lot of us don't want deer on our
property - but I like deer.
Here's a cheap way to do it if you want to attract them.
All you have to do is take this four-inch PVC pipe, strap it to a tree - pour the corn on the top and it comes right through to the bottom and as they eat it. It keeps falling through.
Now, in the summertime they are not going to eat as much because there is lots of vegetation but in the fall and winter months, you are sure to have a whole herd of them. Corn is cheap. This whole project is cheap. You can buy a bag for about eight bucks. You can get it at big discount stores - even feed stores of course.
If you don't want deer, there are a few things you can do.
I say get a big dog. The bigger the dog the better. If you have got two of them, that's even better because deer will smell the scent especially if you let them roam around in your yard.
If you have a veggie garden or a smaller piece of property and want to really keep it safe you can do an electrical fence as this home owner did.
Real simple. It's a weekend project - you just put it around the area you want to protect - you plug it in when you want it active and unplug it when you don't.
So, you don't have to worry about children and that type of thing.
There are also lots of deer products on the market. Here's a great one: Deer Off. All you have to do is spray it occasionally now and then and remember it may wash off during rain -
