A new study from the University of Minnesota says women who buy designer bags and shoes do it to stop other women from stealing their man. Researchers did five experiments with 649 women of all ages and relationship statuses. They found women use luxury items as a "stop" signal to other women who pose a threat to their relationship.
The study says a "woman who is wearing luxury items and designer brands is perceived to have a more devoted partner and as a result other women are less likely to flirt with him." Also, that other women assume a man bought those luxury items for her.
