WFMY -- If you love the summer and warm weather, you probably have a taste for the something else: Ice cream.
When you go to the grocery store, the ice cream choices seem endless. So the folks at ShopSmart put almost two dozen brands and flavors to the test to help you decide.
Associate Editor Nicole Sarrubbo shared the results with WFMY News 2's Lauren Melvin.
Sarrubbo said Häagen-Dazs and Ben & Jerry's still topped the list for classic vanilla and chocolate ice cream.
Also Haagen-Dazs edged out the competition in the taste-tests of vanilla frozen yogurts and butter pecan ice creams.
This year, taste-testers tested 12 vanilla frozen yogurts and nine butter pecan ice creams.
Sarrubbo said while vanilla and chocolate ice cream are still the universal favorites, butter pecan is the third most popular flavor.
ShopSmart's top picks for chocolate and vanilla ice creams have remained unchanged since its last test.
ShopSmart also deemed Häagen-Dazs vanilla frozen yogurt worth the splurge. Per serving, it costs $1.25. Sarrubbo said while it has more calories and sugars than runners-up from Blue Bunny and TCBY, the real vanilla and fresh dairy flavors are better than the competitors'.
The runner up in the ShopSmart frozen yogurt test was Blue Bunny's Vanilla Bean frozen yogurt.
"TCBY Classic Vanilla Bean frozen yogurt received high marks for its vanilla-custard flavor and costs 37 cents per serving, but earned third place because it was a bit icy and gummy," said Sarrubbo.
When it came to butter pecan ice cream, Häagen-Dazs claimed top honors again.
Great Value (Walmart) Butter Pecan ice cream was the runner up. Sarrubbo said it was also a bargain buy at 27 cents a serving.
Blue Bunny Premium Butter Pecan ice cream earned third place in the taste test.
