Greensboro, NC -- It's a fun hobby you probably enjoyed as a kid: Roller skating. However, some ladies in Greensboro have taken a children's sport to a whole new level with roller derby.

The Gate City Roller Girls have been showing off their skills so well, they'll soon be accepted in the Women's Flat Track Derby Association.

The Greensboro women's roller derby league has about 40 members.

Not only do they practice regularly, but they travel to other states to compete.

Just because it's a ladies' sport, doesn't mean the competition is lady like. Roller Derby is intense.

You have a chance to see the Gate City All Stars in action this weekend.

The Gate City All Stars will square off against the Cape Fear Blackhearts on Saturday, June 1 at the Greensboro Coliseum during the Star Strangled Slammer.

Doors open for the double-header roller derby at 4 p.m.

The first whistle is at 5 p.m.

For more information on the Gate City Roller Girls, you can contact email their marketing and public relations team: prmarketing@greensbororollerderby.com.
