Greensboro, NC -- The North Carolina A&T State University Men's Basketball team got their first win in the NCAA Tournament Tuesday, March 26. They beat Liberty, 73-72.
Then last Thursday, they took on number one seed, Louisville Cardinals. Unfortunately, the Aggies fell short in the end. This by no means hurt the spirit of the Aggies nationwide.
Many are already looking forward to next year's program. WFMY News 2's Eric Chilton spoke with Coach Alexander on the Good Morning Show.
Coach Alexander says he's proud of the team and their hard work has paid off. They were the first Aggie team to win an NCAA game. Alexander says he has been a head and assistant coach in NCAA Tournament.
Coach Alexander says he told his team that the goal was to be playing in tournament in March and that goal was attained.
The Aggie coach also discussed some accomplishments of his players. He says senior Austin Witter set a new record by coming in 5th in the nation for shot blocks. Alexander added that Witter set a new record and did a great job defensively and offensively this year.
Alexander also pointed out that Adrian Powell is the MVP of MEAC Tournament, Jean Louisme was the team's designated three-point shooter and that Bruce Beckford worked his way into starting line up. He is was deemed the "freshman sensation."
