Greensboro, NC - They are one of the only middle schools in the country to have a drum line and dance team and they're from right here in Greensboro.

This month, the Aycock Middle School Drumline and Dance Team is traveling to Virginia to represent the Triad in  the Mid Atlantic
& Indoor Nationals also known as the High Stepping Nationals.

Aycock will be competing on March 23rd in the following three categories: Drum Line, Dance Line and Flag Line for awards of either 1st, 2nd & 3rd place. This is an invitational event based upon the band's award winning reputation and outstanding sportsmanship.

WFMY News 2's Tracey McCain spoke with the drumline's director Monday on the Good Morning SHow about their goal to collect $10,000 in order to purchase new instruments.

"We really need drums; that's the biggest thing," said drumline director Rodney Milton.  "We have 10-year-old drums.  They've done really well and we've kept them up, but it's time for new things."

The money will also go to flags, batons and drum heads among other things.  "The drum heads are wearing out," said Milton.  "We're piecing them together, putting tape and duct tape on them to hold up."

Milton is relying on the community to help the drumline and dance team reach its goal of $10,000 because the school district does not provide funding for new instruments.

"Being a middle school, we don't get Guilford County Schools funding.  They do help in other ways, but we don't get the funding that high schools get," he said.

The team has already collected $5,000 through parents and other fundraising events, but now they need you.
