Greensboro, NC - Following the announcement that United Healthcare would add 573 new jobs to the Triad, United Healthcare CEO Garland Scott told News 2's Good Morning Show that he believes the Triad's economy could finally be at a turning point for job creation.

In the interview, Scott told News 2's Patrick Phillippi that United Healthcare chose the Triad based in part on their 20 year history in Greensboro, along with the strong education background here.

Scott said, "We have a very talented, well educated workforce here, we have a lot of long-term employees, and we have a climate where business leaders want to grow the economy."

The unemployment rate in the Triad continues to be higher than the national average, with the North Carolina's unemployment rate standing at 9.2 percent, significantly higher than the national rate of 7.9%.

Scott said he believes the Triad may finally be turning the corner on job creation, saying, "We hope so, we think so, we've seen some improvement in the unemployment rate across the state. We think this could be the first step in the right direction to help turn the economy around."

Many of the jobs being added do not require a background in healthcare.
