Greensboro - Supporters of a new Greensboro Performing Arts Center have chosen the site of the former YWCA building in downtown Greensboro as the location for the building.

The Greensboro Performing Arts Center Task Force will propose building the Arts Center on the Davie Street location at the Greensboro City Council Meeting Tuesday night.

The City Council will also see renderings of what the Performing Arts Center might look like.

The city of Greensboro currently owns the former YWCA property, and supporters of the project say using property the city already owns will allow for the bulk of the construction costs to be used on the building rather than site preparation.

The new arts center would cost $60 million to build, with $20 million coming from private donations.

The remainder of the funds for the building would come from the city and county, some potentially from the Guilford County hotel/motel tax.

The Greensboro City Council will have a final say on the proposed arts center in January when council members vote on whether or not to support and build it.

If they vote to build it, the new arts center could be completed by 2016.
