It is the Fall and that means apples are in season! Geissler Baker from Family and Consumer Sciences stopped by the Good Morning Show to show Faith and Ed how to make Grandma's Fresh Apple Cake!
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
2/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 Granny Smith apple, peeled
cored and thinly sliced
1 tablespoon confectioners'
1. Heat oven to 350o. Coat a 9-inch round baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
2. In small bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. In large bow1, whisk eggs, sugar, applesauce, oil and vanilla extract. Stir in sliced
3. Stir flour mixture into apple mixture until blended. Turn into prepared pan; spread
evenly. Bake at 350o for 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
4. Let cool in pan on wire rack 5 minutes. Invert on rack to cool completely. If desired, place a doily on top of cake; sift confectioners' sugar over doily to make design on top; garnish with fresh apple slices.
