Though Mariah Carey says her American Idol days are far behind her, she recently spoke about how working on the reality singing competition was like "hell."

Carey, who sat on the judges panel for one season with Randy Jackson, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj, told Hot 97 on Tuesday that the experience was like "going to work every day in hell with Satan."

The Art of Letting Go singer, who famously feuded with Minaj throughout the season, laughs and covers her face before continuing.

"Nah, I'm just playing. It didn't affect me that much - I was just disappointed," she says.

Carey says she was the first to sign on as a judge that season and was expecting to be on a three-person panel, adding that she was excited to work with friend Jackson (who has played bass for Mariah Carey in the past).

Though being on the show wasn't what she thought it might be, she did say interacting with the contestants was a positive part.

"I loved the contestants. And some of them that were so good - and really good people, you could tell - it was disappointing when they would, for political reason, not put people through. I'm like, 'I don't need to sit here and do this.' I would prefer to just put this person in the studio, record a record with them. Or tell another producer, 'Yo, you should produce this artist because they're beautiful, they can sing, they're talented.' "

Carey, who has 2-year-old twins with husband Nick Cannon, says she's looking forward to doing her own thing, both on the road and in the studio.

American Idol returns in January.
