Just one day before the MTV Video Music awards, boy band 'N Sync has joined Twitter. Buzzing fans hope the perfectly timed first-and-only tweet is a sign of an imminent reunion.
"Mic check, mic check one.. two... is this thing on?!" the tweet from the @NSYNC account read. It had more than 7,300 retweets in less than three hours.
A few hours later 'N Sync-er Lance Bass tweeted: "Yes, @NSYNC is the official twitter Happy weekend everyone!"
'N Sync's Justin Timberlake, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone, J.C. Chasez and Chris Kirkpatrick broke up more than a decade ago, but all week rumors have been swirling about a possible reunion.
Bass addressed those rumors on his SiriusXm show, Dirty Pop with Lance Bass. He said that people assumed there would be a reunion after seeing the crew together again at a NYC club, but that didn't mean there will be one.
But Us Weekly entertainment director Ian Drew says the reunion is going down.
"It is in the works right now," he said to On Air with Ryan Seacrest. Though the performance "could fall apart at any minute," says Drew, the plan is for 'N Sync to take the stage as part of Justin Timberlake's performance.
