Usher is thanking fans for their support during a harrowing few days when Usher V, 5, got stuck in a pool drain and nearly drowned. Good Morning America reported Thursday the boy, who was rushed to the hospital on Monday, was under water for at least two minutes.
"I am blessed and fortunate to say that my son Usher V is doing well and is recovering," the singer said in a statement. "I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of prayers, love and support for my family's well-being."
He also cited the two contractors at the home who managed to free the little boy. "I would like to thank my Aunt Rena as well as the doctors and nurses who are working with us around the clock. I would especially like to thank the two men who saved my son's life, Eugene Stachurski and Ben Crews. They are true heroes and I am deeply grateful to them."
Usher Raymond V is one of the singer's sons with his ex-wife, Tameka Foster. Their youngest son, Naviyd Ely, is 4. The two have battled over custody of the boys in the past and in the wake of the pool accident, Tameka filed documents seeking custody of the kids. A hearing is set for Friday.
On Wednesday, Foster also told fans on Twitter that Usher V is doing better, "talking & asking for food. Thank you for ur well wishes & prayers."
