WASHINGTON -- She just swanned across fashion's biggest stage - the presidential inaugural ball. Now rumor has it that Michelle Obama is about to grace fashion's biggest page - the cover of Vogue.
USA TODAY's David Jackson confirms that Annie Leibovitz was at the White House on Thursday, the day The Washingtonian reported the possibility of a March cover shot by the famed photog. More evidence: CBS News' White House correspondent Mark Knoller tweeted that a Vogue staffer was aboard the press plane to and from Las Vegas on Tuesday.
Adding to the panting? The fact that POTUS's schedule was clear on Thursday - laying the groundwork for a couple's portrait perhaps? Or a family photo? (Were Malia and Sasha in school?)
Leibovitz has photographed the family Obama before, for their official portrait three years ago. And she's shot the first lady, for her first Vogue cover, back in March 2009. Mrs. O wore Jason Wu then, as she did, of course, to both her husband's inaugural festivities. Might Wu score a fashion four-peat?
Vogue, incidentally, is keeping mum on the cover girl commotion: "We never comment on rumors about future editorial," the mag's rep, Megan Salt, told The Washingtonian
