GREENSBORO, N.C. -- A freshman at North Carolina A&T State University has died from injuries after a motorcycle accident in Greensboro last week.

Xavier Diggs Watkins was riding his 2012 Yamaha motorcycle around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday. A police report says he was traveling about 50 miles per hour on Bernau Avenue toward High Point Road when he hit a car stopped at a stop sign.

Police estimate Watkins was thrown about 97 feet into oncoming traffic as a result of the impact. He was taken to Moses Cone Hospital with multiple broken bones in his legs and arms, according to the report.

A spokesperson at Cone Health confirmed Watkins died Monday morning.

Watkins' father, Charles Watkins, is the university photographer at N.C. A&T.

He graduated from Ragsdale High School in 2013.

Watkins' funeral will be held at Mount Zion Baptist Church at 1301 Alamance Church Road on Friday at 1 p.m.
