Alamance Co. Sheriff Terry Johnson, Attorney Fire Back At Justice Dept. Findings

Graham, NC -- The Alamance County sheriff isn't giving up the fight against the US Department of Justice and its racial profiling accusations.

Sheriff Terry Johnson's personal attorney fired off a response to last week's report from the DOJ that alleged Johnson and the Alamance County Sheriff's Office (ACSO)  targeted Latino drivers for traffic stops and that they routinely locate checkpoints just outside Latino neighborhoods.

In a seven-page legal response to Thomas Perez, the assistant attorney general for the DOJ, Johnson and his attorney said the DOJ's report is full of factual inaccuracies and devoid of specifics. The response prepared by Turrentine Law Firm out of Raleigh also states that Perez's report is "fatally flawed" in terms of accusations that the sheriff and deputies violated laws of the United States.
