Winston-Salem, NC-- A former basketball player for the Winston-Salem State University's Women's team was killed in a car accident.
The crash happened around 4:30am on Cherry St near Reynolds Park Road. Officers said the driver lost control of the car and collided with a utility pole, killing one of the passengers.
The person killed was identified as Jillian Charlet. Investigators said Charlet, died on the scene and two others in the vehicle were taken to Baptist Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash is still under investigation.
The athletics' department released this statement about Charlet's death: The Winston-Salem State University Department of Athletics is sad to announce the passing of former student-athlete, Jillian Rose Charlet. Charlet, 22, died at the scene of a one vehicle crash early Wednesday morning in Winston-Salem, NC. She and another passenger, Choloe Claudette Morse, 21, were roommates. They both were passengers in the car.
Charlet and Morse were seniors at Winston-Salem State University and were scheduled to graduate in May. Charlet was an accounting major from New Washington, Ind., who was scheduled to graduate in May. She played on the WSSU women's basketball team for three years. Morse is from Sumerduck, Va., and was majoring in management information systems.

UPDATE: On 05-23-2012, Mr. Vince Sherman Williams(Driver), Jr (B/M 10-28-1984) was charged for the death of Ms.Jillian Rose Charlet and injuries to Ms. Choloe Claudette Morse. He was chared with Felony Death by Motor Vehicle and Felony Serious Injury By Vehicle.
