Brown Summit, NC -- Schools officials are keeping a close eye on the construction progress at McNair Elementary School in Brown Summit.
The school was supposed to be complete in time for the first day of class, but instead, students are attending temporary schools.
The contractor, Farley and Associates, has given Guilford County Schools a tentative completion date of October 31.
With two months to go, there is still a long list of projects to complete. Crews need to finish installing plumbing, light fixtures and the fire extinguisher system. Sidewalks need to be laid, painting needs to be complete and windows sills need to be added.
It's a lot of work but school officials believe it can be done.
"It's going to depend on the level of effort that the contractor exerts out here. If they put the necessary manpower out to get the work done then it can be done, but again, that's the discussions that we're having with them to make sure that the staffing level of all the subcontractors is adequate to reach that date," said Julius Monk, Guilford County Schools Construction Director.
Monk says someone from the district is on site, checking in with the contractor daily.
