Game Day Recipes From Whole Foods Market

It is game time and whether you are rooting for the Carolina Panthers or UNC TarHeels we are making sure your football party is a success. Mara Norris from Whole Foods Market created a few dishes that are sure to be a win. If you're not interested in doing any cooking, she also showed us a variety of ready-made dishes you can buy.

Potato Skin Sliders

Serves 8-10 People
2 Pounds Creamer Potatoes
2 Tbsp. Oil
Salt and Pepper to taste
1 Pound Grass-Fed Ground Beef or Ground Bison 
½ Onion, minced
2 Cloves Garlic, minced
½ Cup Cooked Red Quinoa
Salt and Pepper to taste

1. In a large pot, cover potatoes with cold salted water by two inches. Boil until just soft. Let cool and cut in half. Scoop center out with a spoon. Toss potatoes in oil, season with salt and pepper.

2. In a mixing bowl, combine hamburger with onion, garlic, quinoa, salt, and pepper. Create small balls with mixture.

3. Set grill to medium-high temperature. Grill potatoes and hamburgers to desired doneness. 

4. Fill potatoes with burger and desired toppings.

Chocolate Covered Grilled Bacon

Serves 8-10

1 Pound Bacon, strips cut in half
1 Bag (12 oz.) Chocolate Chips 
2 Tbsp. Canola or Safflower Oil 
1 Cup Crushed Chapel Hill Toffee


1. Grill bacon until crispy. Place on a plate lined with a paper towel to drain.

2. Mix chocolate chips and oil in a metal bowl. Place bowl over a pot with two inches of water in the bottom. Simmer the water, and stir chocolate until it is melted. Dip bacon in chocolate, shaking off excess chocolate. Dip in toffee crumbs, and lay on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper to dry and harden.  


Sweet Tea Shandy
Makes 4 Shandies
2 Natty Greene's Buckshot Amber Ale
1 GT's Enlightened Organic Raw Kombucha (Original Flavor)
Juice of ½ Lemon, slice other half into wheels
½ Tbsp. SC Honey


In a pitcher, mix all ingredients and gently stir. Serve with a wedge of lemon
