Gary Aramini is trying to raise money for cancer and a local family with medical expenses after their son died from a rare disease.

High Point, NC -- A man is using his remarkable endurance to help a family in need.

The "Compassion Workout" was supposed to raise money for seven-year-old Kaleb Rancer. He had a rare blood disorder that affected his bone marrow. Sadly, Kaleb died March 17th.

But the Compassion Workout still took place. Runner Gary Aramini pledged to run 100 miles, or 24 hours, on a treadmill to raise money for the family. Kaleb's father, Phillip Rancer, said even though his son's not here - Gary's run is bigger than Kaleb now. "He's doing this for Kaleb, my son. He's doing it for his mother who's a breast cancer survivor. Hes' doing it for all the other kids out there right now that are literally fighting for their lives."

As of 10:45 p.m., Aramini had run 50 miles before getting sick from a stomach bug. He was actually in a hospital emergency room when we called to check on his progress. But Rancer said Aramini said he'll start running again as soon as he's able until he reaches his goal.
