GREENSBORO, N.C.-- Recognition for doing your job is a good feeling, but it's a greater feeling when it comes from your peers. Thursday afternoon, the Greensboro Police Department recognized two employees as part of their Employee of the Month Awards.
A news release from police stated that Detective P. W. Wright was selected as the Criminal Investigations Division Employee of the Month due to her diligent work on multiple cases as well as her commitment to giving valuable presentations to the community on internet safety. Many of Detective Wright's cases involve innocent children who are victims of horrendous crimes.
She also educates the community on internet safety and cyber bullying by doing public presentation. During October, many of Detective Wright's presentations were after her normal duty hours and on weekends in order to accommodate the community. She has a genuine interest in improving the community in which she serves which is demonstrated by her diligent work on difficult investigations and her eagerness to deliver the presentations on internet safety and cyber bullying.
Officer S. A. Alvarez was also recognized Thursday. In December, he responded to a reported armed robbery at the Lane Drug Store on Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. Officer Alvarez heard the description of the suspect, circulated the area for the suspect. He found the person inside a car and arrested him. Investigators were also able to connect the person to another drug store robbery that happened in the county.
Also in December, Officer Alvarez responded to a call about someone taking packages that had been delivered and left at homes on Primerose Avenu. He was able to locate, interview and arrested the suspect after they confessed to taking the packages.
In addition to his daily work of protecting and serving his community, Officer Alvarez is involved with community outreach projects in the Latino community. He also volunteers his time with youth outreach .
