  • BURLINGTON, N.C.-- The Salvation Army in Alamance County struck gold again, literally.

Last week, someone dropped some gold coins in a Salvation Army red kettle in Mebane and again this week also in Mebane.

The coins left last week were worth about $2,000, Capt. Jimmy Taylor said. Capt. Taylor said the latest coins haven't been appraised yet.

The person donating the gold coins is unknown.

Last week in Winston-Salem, an anonymous donor left a diamond necklace in a Salvation Army red kettle.
