ASHEBORO, N.C. -- Patches the polar bear has finally arrived at her new home in the North Carolina Zoo.
The bear arrived at the zoo Wednesday. However, it will be a number of days before she's on display for her new fans at the zoo. She'll remain in the zoo's polar bear holding quarters until she gets used to her new home.
Patches is a 25-year-old female bear from the Erie Zoo in Pennsylvania. She was born in November 1987 at the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, Neb. She moved to the Erie Zoo in December 2007.
The news of Patches' move to North Carolina comes after two N.C. Zoo polar bears died.

Zoo leaders have not said when they plan to reopen the new polar bear exhibit. It's undergone an $8.5 million renovation and expansion project over a two-year period.
