September 11 Memorial Events Around The Triad

Wednesday, America will pause and reflect for the 12th observance of the 9/11 attacks. Events are being held around the country and in North Carolina to mark the moments from that day and to show appreciation for our First Responders.

Gov. Pat McCrory has ordered all US Flags and NC Flags lowered to half-staff on all state facilities from sunrise to sunset in recognition of Patriot Day.

Here is a list of scheduled events across the Triad.

Forsyth County: 

  • 9 a.m.: 9/11 Commemoration with guest speakers Mayor Joines, Police Chief Rountree, Fire Chief Antony Farmer and more at Corpening Plaza, 231 First St., Winston-Salem, NC.

Guilford County:

  • 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. "Patriot Day" UNCG Remember and Reflects Event is outside Elliott University Center
  • 9:00 a.m. - Jefferson Elementary Honors First Responders
  • 11 a.m - 3:30 p.m.: All American Potluck hosted by Deluxe Corporation at 3703 Farmington Dr., Greensboro, NC.
  • 12 p.m. - 4:00 p.m - Volunteer Center collecting care package items for American Troops. Location: 1500 Yanceville St. Call: 336-373-1633 for information.
  • 12 p.m. - 2 p.m.: Open House at United Way of Greater Greensboro for lunch and service projects at 1500 Yanceyville St., Greensboro, NC.
  • 2:30 p.m. - Academy at Smith to Commemorate 9/11 with First Responders.

Rockingham County:

  • 9 a.m.: 9/11 Ceremony at the entrance of the sheriff's office at 170 NC 65, Reidsville, NC.

Alamance County:

  • 10:30 a.m. - E.M. Holt Elementary hosting Flags for First Graders program. Men from the Ameican Legion Post 63 will demonstrate proper flag etiquette and share thoughts on respect for the flag.

Davidson County:

  • 5:30 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. - Music, Prayers, Christian and Patriotic Proclamations. Lexington Senior High ROTC will present colors. Event is at: Old Courthouse downtown at the corner of Center and Main St. in Lexington.
