Greensboro, NC -- The WFMY News 2 Good Morning Show team kicked off the school year with Read 2 Succeed this past Thursday.
Four-hundred kids packed the cafetorium at Foust Elementary as the team emphasized importance of reading.
In this high energy assembly students played Jeopardy, performed a mock newscast and busted moves to the Read 2 Succeed theme song performed by Big Bang Boom.
The students were the stars in this highly interactive assembly. They saw the benefits to reading and the potential they all have. The messages were clear: reading makes life more fun and opens up career opportunities.
The Good Morning Show team is scheduled to visit at least 39 schools this year and will present the Read 2 Succeed assembly to more than 17,000 students.
Last year, Read 2 Succeed helped propel Guilford County students beyond their 3 million book reading goal. This year WFMY News 2 will work with Guilford County Schools to promote the district's new program "Roadmap 2 Reading" where every minute a student reads is a mile on a map. The district will average all the miles in an attempt to read across the United States.
The Good Morning Show will also visit several other counties to take the Read 2 Succeed message to even more students this school year.
