Colfax, NC -- A local Boy Scouts troop spent Saturday beautifying a local school.
Troop 600 installed and filled garden beds at Colfax Elementary. The goal of the garden is meant to teach students about agriculture, gardening and healthy eating.
Saturday's efforts were part of the Environmental Stewardship Challenge, sponsored by the US Green Building Council North Carolina Chapter. USGBC NC awarded the school a $300 grant for start-up costs.
The Environmental Stewardship Challenge is in its 4th year. The challenge invites K-12 schools across the state to form teams to develop and come up with strategies to make their schools green.
Colfax was one of eight schools in the Piedmont-Triad to receive the grant from USGBC NC.
