Greensboro, NC-- In some areas of North Carolina, the school bell is ringing and the big yellow buses are back on the road transporting our most precious cargo.

In about two weeks the scene will be repeated in Guilford and other Triad counties. This means children will need a number of things to get the school year off to a good start.

It takes a village. With the economy in slow recovery mode, many organizations and businesses are doing their part to help parents who can't afford it, get the necessary items their children will need for school. One of those organizations is the Greensboro YMCA. Their Bright Beginnings program helps about 500 children with new school clothes, supplies, and a book bag to help children in need start the year with confidence for success.

Monday afternoon, the Greensboro Police Chief, Ken Miller, stepped away from police work to volunteer on a shopping trip at Target. Chief Miller along with several volunteers took more than 20 kids back to school shopping.
