Guilford County -- Sen. Kay Hagan toured Rudd Farm Monday and spoke about the importance of the Farm Bill for North Carolina.

According to Sen. Hagan, the bipartisan senate bill gives farmers protection and reduces the budget deficit by $24 billion. Sen. Hagan sponsored an amendment to the Senate Farm Bill, which provides the USDA with the necessary resources to combat fraud and preserve safety-net programs for honest hardworking farmers. The amendment was approved by a vote of 94-0.

The Rudd Farm is fourth generation family farm in Guilford County. It began as a tobacco farm until 2000 when the farm planted its first strawberry crop.

Agriculture is North Carolina's largest industry, generating &77 billion in economic activity and employing nearly one-fifth of the state's workforce.
