Recently, the Gannett Foundation awarded grants to the many communities served by Gannett Co., Inc.

WFMY News 2 President and General Manager, Larry Audas had the opportunity to present a grant in the amount of $3,000 to representatives from the United Arts Council of Greater Greensboro, Inc. This gift will help the Arts Council support more than 50 programs, from innovative projects like the Magic Art Bus and critical arts-in-education school programs to cornerstone institutions like the Symphony, Green Hill Center and Eastern Music Festival.

The Gannett Foundation serves those communities in which Gannett Co., Inc. has a local daily newspaper, broadcast station or cable TV operation. The program makes contributions to qualified nonprofit organizations to improve the education, health and advancement of the people who live in Gannett communities. The contributions help to improve the quality of life and address the most pressing community issues.

The foundation values projects that take a creative approach to fundamental issues as education and neighborhood improvement, economic development, youth development, community problem-solving, assistance to disadvantaged people, environmental conservation and cultural enrichment.  Proposals are accepted at any time during the year and the next deadline for applications from non-profits is August 15.
