Tyro, NC-- Restaurants are probably one of the hardest businesses to keep going after a number of years because of what it costs to operate one.

But, don't tell that to a dreamer, specifically, Dan Stamey. He's the owner of Stamey's Barbecue in Tyro, which is in Davidson County. This dreamer opened his hog business in 1973.

He said he hired a man to fix the ice machine who told him "to close the doors and go home." In fact, Dan said he received very few words of encouragement back then on his road to success. However, Dan said all he could think was, "I needed to go to work and make it work."

Whether it was inspiration to prove the naysers wrong or depression at the thought of not making it, he went all in!

And 40 years later, on Friday, June 14th, Dan will mark 40 years of smoking hogs. The West Davidson community has always supported him. Other than some of the local churches, Stamey's Barbecue Restaurant is the oldest business in Tyro. Stamey has sponsored several race cars in NASCAR over the years, including cars for Elmo Langley, Tommy Gale, D.K. Ulrich, and David Sisco.

Stamey's is holding a 'throw back' party to celebrate his 40 years in business, this will include hot dogs, french fries and ice tea being only $1.00. Three will also be t-shirts on sale.

Race cars will also be on display, along with balloons for the kids and of course birthday cake. The 40th anniversary party begins at noon on Friday and ends when all the food is gone.
