High Point, NC -- The Southwest Elementary Safety Patrol held a "Wags and Whiskers" campaign for the Guilford County Animal Shelter. And it wasn't just the Safety Patrol but, all grade levels participated in the service learning project in connection with the campaign.

Kindergarteners took part in a Teacher's Pet Contest. The contest included five teachers who brought in pictures of their pets and placed it with a collection jar in the office. Not only students, but staff and parents voted for their favorite pet by putting money in the jars. But it was "Bella," Ms. Martinelli's dog who won the contest earning $220 for Susie's Fund. The money will help benefit abused and neglected animals.

First grade students put their art skills to the test. They crafted handmade note cards. The cards will be sold at the Guilford County Animal Shelter to raise even more money.

Fourth graders held a walk and run for the animal shelter raising $1,446. They'll use $1,000 to help care for the animals at the shelter. They'll use the remaining $446 to donate to Susie's Fund. A special plaque will be on display at the shelter to honor the
Southwest Fourth Grader class.
