Greensboro, NC -- Joey Motsay had a strange wish for his 50th birthday, or maybe we should call it a goal. He decorated his car and set out to "Push 50 at 50."
Motsay attempted to break a world record by pushing a car 50 miles in a 24 hour time period. The current record is 26.2 miles. Motsay and his supporters spent from 7pm Friday to 7pm Saturday pushing the car around the P1 parking level at Signature Place in Friendly Shopping Center.
Motsay broke the record at about 5:00, Saturday morning. He completed the 50 miles (the same as the distance between Greensboro and Chapel Hill), by 7pm.
He made well over 200 laps while professional observers watched. They will send their unofficial results to Guiness to make the feat official.
There was more to this than setting a record. Motsay was trying to raise money for Peacehaven Farm, a non profit that assists people with special needs. The goal was to raise $50 thousand dollars. By 7pm, he had raised about 23 thousand.
Motsay, who is the owner of Positive Stress Workout, says he hopes people will continue to donate, even though he's finished pushing the car 50 miles.
