Asheboro, NC -- It's about the 'rub,' the 'sauce,' and mouth-watering BBQ at one heated upcoming competition in Asheboro.
On Saturday, get your taste buds ready to sample lots of BBQ at the "Pig Out In The Parking Lot" BBQ Cook-off in Asheboro. The event helps raise money for the Habitat for Humanity. This is the eighth year for the event which will feature lots of BBQ, family friendly activities for children, and live music throughout the day. Plus you can enjoy corn hole among many other activities. Organizers hope to raise at least $10,000 for Habitat homes. They're expecting several thousand people to attend.
The BBQ Cook-off will take place before the start of the event. Judges will look for appearance, texture, color, fat-to-lean ratio, burnt meat, tenderness, sauce, and of course taste. One of WFMY News 2's photographers, George Harrison, will serve as one of the judges at the BBQ Cook-off.
The event is on Saturday, May 4 from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Randolph Mall parking lot.
You can enjoy barbecue and barbecue chicken. Sandwiches will cost $5 each, and plates will include beans, slaw, and hushpuppies for $7. Drinks will cost $1.
