Greensboro, NC -- Guilford County Schools is celebrating a remarkable achievement as one of the school system's own was named the state teacher of the year.
Karyn Dickerson, an English teacher at Grimsley High School, was named the 2013-2014 Burroughs Wellcome Fund North Carolina Teacher of the Year in a ceremony Thursday.
Dickerson is a National Board Certified Teacher with a bachelor's degree in English and master's degree in philosophy. She also teaches English Methods at Guilford College.
She was awarded the state's top honor after winning the award for GCS Teacher of the Year in 2012.
Dickerson succeeds Darcy Grimes, a third grade teacher at Bethel Elementary School in Watauga County.
