Greensboro, NC -- North Carolina state leaders are working on a new measure to help create new educational opportunities for families.
On Tuesday night, nearly 2,000 parents and school leaders from across the state gathered together in Greensboro for the S.O.S: Answering the Call for Our Children event. It included a free concert featuring Grammy-nominated gospel artist Marvin Sapp at the Greensboro War Memorial Auditorium.
Among those in the crowd included N.C. Speaker of the House Thom Tillis who joined two Triad Representatives including Marcus Brandon (D) Guilford Co., and Ed Hanes (D) Forsyth Co.
The event comes one week after House Bill 944 or the Opportunity Scholarship Act was filed in the N.C. General Assembly. The measure would allow low-income and working-class families to better afford schools that could meet their children's educational needs.
