Durham, NC -- A Florida doctor and his wife are giving $20 million to expand Duke University's sports medicine program.
The school said Thursday that Dr. Steven Scott and his wife, Rebecca, have agreed to provide the money for clinical and research development, faculty recruiting and retention, and support for sports medicine training.
Duke President Richard Brodhead says the gift will have a long-lasting impact.
Scott is a member of the steering committee for Duke Forward, a $3 billion university fundraising campaign.
He says he hopes the gift will benefit the sports medicine department as well as Duke's School of Medicine.
He and his wife live in Boca Raton, Fla.
The couple committed $10 million to Duke in October for a building to house the ticket offices, a team store and training rooms.
