Greensboro, NC -- When you run, you expect to come back sweaty and tired. Saturday, 5K runners/walkers in Greensboro came back all diferent colors and giddy.
The event is called the "Color Me Rad 5K."
It seems to be the new thing in fundraising. Onlookers douse runners with color when they pass by.
Not to worry. Organizers say the colored powder and spray is nothing more than food color and cornstarch.
More than 7,500 people signed up to get doused and help raise money for Special Olympics of North Carolina.
And there was no real need to finish first.
"We remove the competitive element and add a visually spectacular element with colors that are thrown onto the runners. It's very family friendly. We encourage parents to bring their young children, strollers are welcome," said race director Wyatt Grow.
This is the first time "Color Me Rad" teamed up with Special Olympics of North Carolina for a Greensboro run.
They say they hope to do it again next year. This year's fundraising goal was $20 thousand dollars.
