Winston-Salem, NC -- A hometown team on the verge of making history.
Winston-Salem State may not have gotten that storybook ending, but they definitely got a hero's welcome.
Members of the football team landed at Smith Reynolds airport, just before 9 o'clock Saturday night, and there were plenty of fans out there that wanted them to know they were the best, no matter how Saturday's game turned out.
News 2 was in Alabama for the game, with some other fans who said they wouldn't have missed what turned into a magical season.
"I think I am proud of the rams. I believed the entire time that we would play well. I think it's historic just to be here. You couldn't say much more about this team. A team that's gone 14-0 to make it to a national championship. Although we fell a little short today I feel that we'll be back. Next year!"
Thousands of rams fans made the trip to Florence, Alabama for the big game. They lined the streets outside the stadium to cheer on the players, championship or not.
